NMJE PRESENTS COOPER, HAY, VAN LENTE GROUP & SPECIAL GUEST VOCALIST JANICE KEEGAN IN AN AFTERNOON OF JAZZ AT THE INSIDEOUT GALLERY

The Northwest MI Jazz Experience (NMJE) proudly presents an afternoon of jazz standards and original music featuring the Cooper, Hay, Van Lente Group and special guest vocalist Janice Keegan on Sunday, October 12, 2008 at 3:00 pm. The performance will take place at the InsideOut Gallery in Traverse City’s downtown warehouse district.
The Cooper, Hay, Van Lente Group, a trio of acclaimed veterans from southwestern Michigan, is led by popular vibraphonist, pianist and composer Jim Cooper. Jim has appeared as a soloist and sideman in a variety of groups for over 30 years. He has toured worldwide including appearances at many major jazz festivals, recorded three CDs of his own and performed with Ira Sullivan, Barrett Deems and co-led a popular Chicago-based group with Bob Dogan, longtime pianist for Buddy Rich. Dave Hay is well known by jazz lovers throughout Michigan. He is a deeply talented pianist, composer and bassist. He performs regularly with his own group, teaches bass and piano at Grand Rapids Community College has performed and recorded with a long list of legendary jazz musicians. Mike Van Lente is a dynamic drummer and percussionist who has performed with Clark Terry, Bill Carrothers, and the John Shea Trio, among others. He is on the faculty of Hope College. Vocalist Janice Keegan has developed a very engaging and popular style in her vocal interpretations of tunes from of the American songbook. She often appears with pianist Dave Hay.
Admission to the October 12th performance by the Cooper, Hay, Van Lente Group is $5 for NMJE members and $15 for non-members. Tickets and NMJE memberships will be available at the door. NMJE is a non-profit membership organization whose mission is to promote appreciation and enjoyment of the art form of jazz in northwest Michigan.
